The play “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” directed by Mostafa Koushki has been performed at the 22nd Gdańsk Shakespeare Festival in Poland, July 27-August 5.  It is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s comedy in which Azin Nazari, Mohammad-Sadeq Malek, Sajjad Baqeri, Amir-Mehdi Jule and Alireza Keymanesh perform, ISNA reported on its Persian website. Koushki’s adaptation was well received during its 163 performances last year in Tehran. The 33-year-old writer and director in the past has staged other classic plays including Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and Ben Jonson’s Volpone.  The story of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” happens during the wedding celebration of Duke Theseus of Athens and the Amazon queen Hippolyta. British playwright William Shakespeare (1564-1616) wrote the play in 1595. It is considered as one of his most popular comedies. Founded in 2008, Gdańsk Shakespeare Festival is an international theater festival devoted to the idea of the Elizabethan theater, and especially to the works of William Shakespeare. Elizabethan theater, also known as English Renaissance theater, refers to the theater in England between 1562 and 1642.
