A solo painting exhibition by visual artist Siavash Mansouri is underway at Saless Gallery until July 31.

The exhibition “Against All Odds,” features works of acrylic and mixed materials with a variety of subjects, Honaronline reported on its Persian website.

On the paintings the artist has written some phrases in nastaliq, one of the scripts traditionally used in in Persian calligraphy.

Developed in Iran in the 14th and 15th centuries, nastaliq is widely used in Iran, Pakistan, India,  Afghanistan and other countries for writing poetry and as a form of art.  Mansouri’s pop art works of paintings and calligraphy mix  modern elements with slangs and well-known imagery that are familiar to visitors, especially the youth.

Pop art is an art movement that emerged in the 1950s and flourished in the 1960s in America and Britain, drawing inspiration from sources in popular and commercial culture. The movement presented a challenge to traditions of fine art by including imagery from popular and mass culture, such as advertising, comic books and mundane cultural objects.

Saless Gallery is located at No. 148, between Mahshahr and Iranshahr streets, Karimkhan Ave.
