Over 600 musicians are in the lineup for the upcoming National Festival of Youth Music.

The 12th edition of the festival is slated for August 13-September 9 in Tehran. More than 600 singers and instrumentalists will participate, 100 more than the number in the previous edition last year.

They will compete in three sections: “dastgah,” musical modal system in traditional Iranian music; classical music; and ethnic music, Honaronline reported on its Persian website.  Participants were selected from more than 1,600 submitted works. They are in three age groups: 15-18; 19-23; and 24-29. Festival secretary is the musician Houman As’adi, 47. The event is organized under the auspices of Iran Music House, Music Office of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and Roudaki Foundation.

The venues of the Festival are Roudaki Hall on Shahryar Blvd. and Niavaran Cultural Center at the northern tip of Pasdaran Street.
