Adaptation of Matei Vişniec Play

An adaptation of “Richard III Will Not Take Place” written by Romanian Playwright Matei Vişniec is on stage at Charsou Hall in City Theater. The play directed by Rouhollah Jafari is about theater censorship and cultural resistance by a prominent Russian director Vsevolod Meyerhold (1874-1940) during Stalin’s totalitarian rule and focuses on the social role and responsibility of the artist. A production of Giti Theater Group, the cast includes 13 actors, including Hamid Rahimi, Nasim Shojaie, Pouria Soltanzadeh and Mehdi Bajestani. The play is translated from English into Persian by Asghar Nouri.  Vişniec, 62, is a dramatist, poet, novelist and journalist who lives and works in France. Since 1987, he has written 30 plays in his native language and 20 in French. The play will run through August 17. City Theater is located at Valiasr and Enqelab junction.
