All-Female Band to Perform at Vahdat Hall

Polaris Music Group, an all-women Iranian pop band is to hold four concerts at Vahdat Hall in Tehran.

In the women-only event, the band will perform pieces in five languages: Persian, Azeri, Hindi, English and French, as well as Kurdish and Lori folk pieces. The concerts are slated for July 19-20 and July 26-27, Iranconcert reported.

Led by pianist Bahar Ilchi, the ensemble includes 10 instrumentalists and three singers.

Armita Fahimi (electric guitar), Mehrnaz Dabirzadeh (percussion), Pegah Ebrahim (violin), Sara Parsaee (flute), Sepideh Ilchi (bass guitar), Sahar Dezvarei (drums), Parna Kuhgivi (Spanish guitar), Ava Manbari (keyboard), Thamila Tahvildari (saxophone) and Shania Shahriari (trumpet) form the ensemble.

The singers include Marie Ruth Batoua from Côte d’Ivoire who will sing pieces in French, Mahshid Molai who sings in Hindi so well that few believe she is not a native, and actress Behnoush Bakhtiari who will sing folklore.

Ilchi established the band in 2009 with Ali Afshar, the band’s producer.
