Homage to Modernist Painter

A photomontage exhibition at Daargoun Gallery in Tehran has opened to commemorate the modern painter and poet Mohammad-Ebrahim Jafari (1940-2018).

The group exhibit includes photo collage and montage work of seven visual artists, ISNA reported on its Persian website.

Some of the works include montage pictures of Jafari who created simple and romantic imagery in his poems and paintings. Other artworks have different subjects. A wax figure statue of Jafari is placed in the main hall of the gallery.

The artists include painter and photographer Farzaneh Esmailzadeh, architect and visual artist Maryam Seyedi, poet and painter Hadis Rezaei and photographer Kamand Nikdel.

Born in Borujerd in western Iran, Jafari studied at Dar ul-Funun of Tehran, the first modern institute of higher learning in Iran, and later followed in the footsteps of his master, the great abstract artist Mohsen Vaziri-Moghaddam, at Tehran University’s Faculty of Fine Arts.

Jafari normally used watercolor and ink in his works that conveyed a romantic mood. His collection of poetry "You Sang Like a Night Bird and Went" is a combination of modern romantic poetry and folklore ballads.

Daargoun Gallery, located at Unit 2, No. 14, Bashardoust Dead end, East Roudbar St., Mirdamad St., will host the works until July 20.
