The city of Saveh in Markazi Province will host the third Scientific Conference on Drama Therapy on August 23. Drama therapy is among group therapy methods in which drama or theater processes as well as psychotherapeutic techniques are used to promote interaction between participants and therapists, as a means of catharsis.  The approach helps create a platform for participants to talk about their personal encounters, express their feelings, seek solutions and get relief from strong or repressed emotions. Mashhad, capital of Khorasan Razavi Province, hosted the first and second editions of the conference.  Speaking to Mehr News Agency, Majid Amraee, secretary of the conference, said, “The conference will have three sections: lectures, presentation of articles and educational workshops,” This year, the workshops focus on teaching the fundamental concepts and principles of drama therapy. Drama therapy is used in a wide variety of settings, including hospitals, schools, mental health centers, prisons, and businesses. Drama therapy, as a form of ‘expressive therapy’ (also known as creative arts therapies) exists in many forms and can be applicable to individuals, couples and families. Amraee said those interested should submit their articles to the conference secretariat latest by August 1. “After evaluations, the results will be announced on August 6,” he added. Amraee, 49, is a theater director, author, playwright and researcher in drama therapy. He has authored ‘Drama Therapy in its Evolutionary Path’ published by the Tehran-based Danjeh Publications in 2010.  He worked as a drama therapist for several years to help war veterans and former POWs of the 1980-88 Iraq-Iran war.
