A musical comedy based on Moliere’s “Scapin the Schemer” is on stage at Sangelaj Theater until July 16.

The situation comedy “Neyrang-o-Ourang,” is directed by Morteza Barzegarzadehgan and includes improvisation techniques and other traditional forms of Iranian theater like naqqali (dramatic story telling), Honaronline reported on its Persian website.

It is about Scapin, a valet who constantly lies and tricks people to get ahead. He is an arrogant, pompous man who acts as if for him nothing is impossible.

However, he also is a diplomatic genius. He manages to play the other characters against each other easily.

Cinema and TV actor of the 1970’s Saeed Kangarani performs the play alongside Mohammad Reza Azadfard, Mohammad Poura, Elaheh Pourjamshidi and Davoud Moeinikia.

Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known as Molière (1622 –1673), is famous for his comedies and satire. His plays have been translated in every major language in the world.

The venue is located at Behesht St., south of City Park, Imam Khomeini Square.
