Those who have a knack for hunting trophies in the flotsam and jetsam of flea markets might want to visit the Friday Bazaar in Tehran.
Every Friday the multi-tiered parking lot of Parvaneh Shopping Center opens up to all sorts of peddlers with all sorts of goods, from antiques, paintings, handicrafts and old furniture to ornaments and trinkets, rugs and metal-works.
The bazaar has an intense atmosphere and its stifling air is filled with clanks and assorted noises reverberating between concrete walls. All said, to many it offers an exciting shopping experience. Prices are largely negotiable. To have a wider choice, the curious and potential buyer should visit in the early hours of the day.
Friday Bazaar is located on Jomhouri Avenue, a few meters east of Istanbul Junction.
