The comedy play “The Miser” written by the renowned  French playwright Molière is to be staged by Maryam Kazemi at City Theater in mid July.
Kazemi performed the play at the 36th Fajr International Theater Festival, Mehr News Agency reported on its Persian website. Veteran actor Hossien Moheb-Ahari, Houman Rahnemon and Kazemi act in the play. The play tells the story of Harpagon, a stingy old widower who is obsessed with accumulating wealth and hides his money under the ground. He is attempting to marry an attractive young woman, Mariane, who is in love with Harpagon’s son Cléante.  The comedy takes a turn when Cléante steals his father’s money to marry Mariane.  Molier’s works were among the first western plays that arrived in Iran and went on stage in the 19th Century (Qajar era). First staged in 1668, the play has been seen in many countries and made into films and TV adaptations.
