Selected pieces of sculptures at the Fourth Sculpture Biennial for Urban Space will be installed in city spaces in Tehran by the end of the next Iranian year (March 2016), said a municipal official.

An exhibition of the sculptures, set to kick off on February 1, coinciding with the anniversary celebrations of the Islamic Revolution, will showcase 221 works by 210 artists, said Hadi Mozafari, cultural and urban arts deputy at Tehran Beautification Organization (TBO).

The pieces that will be displayed have been selected by a jury panel of veteran artists from among a total number of 1176 works sent by 580 artists, he said.

Mozafari, who is also the chairman of the policy making council for the sculpture biennial said the number of works participating in the event has increased in volume by 45 percent, from a previous entry of 181 works. Another significant characteristic of the event is the increase in participation by female artists, he said.

  Documented

The exhibition will also be documented with a printed catalogue, he said, adding that different meetings will be held on the status of sculpturing in Iran, pathology of urban sculpture, and creativity in the art of sculpturing, among other things.

Describing the event as the best opportunity for the demonstration of artists’ ideas, Mozafari said that his organization has asked artists “to observe quality standards in their work, so that they can be placed all around the city.”

The fourth biennial will be chaired by Jamal Kamyab, managing director of the TBO.
