Rooster Sculptures, Paintings in Istanbul

Works of two Iranian artists are on display in an exhibition at the 7 Art Gallery in Istanbul, Turkey until June 21.

Titled “Double Duet Rooster,” the exhibit is a collection of 20 paintings and bronze sculptures by the painter Mehrdad Fallah and sculptor Alireza Majidi, Honaronline reported on its Persian website.

Majidi previously exhibited his symbolic figures of lion and sun at Tehran’s Negar Art Gallery. Most of Fallah’s work is a combination of figurative paintings of animals including lion and rooster and calligraphy.

Organized jointly by Farda Art Gallery, Infogallery and Mohsenian Art Collection, the Istanbul exhibit focuses on rooster which bears a symbolic meaning in Iranian art.

Images of domestic fowl have been seen in paintings on pre-Islamic era ceramics in Iran. In Iranian folklore, rooster is the guardian of night; it awakens people after winning a daily battle with “Boshasia”, the demon of laziness and sleep. In different texts Rooster has also been considered symbol of luck and happiness.

The newly established 7 Art Gallery has hosted works of Persian painters such as Hamid Toloueifard, Kaveh Kavousi and Mansour Qandriz. It aims to introduce famous Iranian artists in Turkey.
