Liberation of Khorramshahr in Paintings

Paintings of Ameneh Khoshrou depicting the “Liberation of Khorramshahr” are on view at Iran Art Gallery in Tehran.

Khorramshahr Liberation Day is commemorated each year on May 24. The day in 1982 was fateful in the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war as Iranian troops recaptured the southwestern port city in Khuzestan Province from the invading Iraqi army.

On view are 10 works, oil on canvas, some of which are based on old photos taken from the historic day and some are the creation of the artist’s imagination.

“These works reflect my memories; the hopes and happy moments we had despite the pain, fear, grief and the agony we suffered during the unjust and unfair war,” Persian website of Honaronline quoted Khoshrou as saying.

Her paintings will remain on display until June 7 at the venue, located at No. 19, Khark Street on Enqelab Avenue.
