Tehran Symphony Will Honor Team Melli

Tehran Symphony Orchestra, the oldest and largest ensemble in Iran, conducted by Iranian-American composer, violinist and pianist Shahrdad Rohani is to hold three concerts in Russia in honor of Team Melli during the FIFA World Cup soccer tournament.  According to Ali-Akbar Safipour, director of Roudaki Foundation in Tehran and the organizer of the concerts, the first is slated for June 15 in Saint Petersburg, hours before Iran’s first game against Morocco, Honaronline reported on its Persian website.For the event, two instrumental pieces as well as two songs have specially been composed. The lyrics for one of the songs is written by Ehsan Afshari and Babak Zarrin is composer. Vocalist Salar Aqili is scheduled to sing along with the Tehran Symphony Orchestra. The other song is from poet Saed Baqeri, and Rohani is the music producer. Vocalist Alireza Qorbani will sing the piece. On June 17, the ensemble will have its performance at Moscow Conservatory, the main auditorium in the Russian capital, and on June 19 the orchestra will perform in the city of Kazan, southwest Russia.  The ensemble’s last concert was held in Tehran on May 18. The next performance of the orchestra is planned for midsummer at which pieces by Russian pianist Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) and Czech composer Antonín Dvořák (1841-1904) will be played.
