Selected Cinemas are screening the documentary “A Letter to Mr. Banan” directed and produced by Zohreh Mohaqeq.

The 87-minute film deals with the life and career of renowned Iranian musician and singer Gholam Hossein Banan (1911-1986), Cinematicket.org wrote.

In the film, Banan’s wife Paridokht Avar, his adopted son Houman Sadr, celebrated traditional singer Iraj, singer and tar player Kaveh Deylami, who was one of his few students, piano player Mazda Ansari and musician Harir Shariatzadeh tell their memories of the master.

Banan was in touch with music since childhood as he was born into a family of music enthusiasts, his mother played the piano, his sisters played tar and his aunt the ney.

During the course of his 50-year career Banan sang 350 songs. One of his hit songs “Elaheh-ye Naz,” first broadcast on national radio in 1959, is still popular among Iranians.

Cinema Museum, Iranian Artists Forum and Farhang Cinema are the venues screening the film in the capital.
