Winners of the Arba’een International Photography Competition will be awarded next month. The award ceremony will be held concurrent with celebrations marking the anniversary of the February 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, said Cultural Deputy of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) Seyed Mohammad-Hossein Hashemi.

He added that the deadline for submitting photos on the annual Arba’een march has been extended to January 21, IQNA reported.

Hashemi noted that millions of Shia and Sunni Muslims from 80 countries took part in this year’s Arba’een march in Iraq.

Every year on the eve of Arba’een (marking the 40th day of martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions), pilgrims travel long routes on foot to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located.

The ICRO has organized the Arba’een competition with the aim of promoting different aspects of this huge religious rally.

According to Hashemi, the competition has been received warmly by Iranians as well as Muslims abroad.
