Abgineh Museum (museum of glassware and ceramic) in Tehran is to hold a glass workshop and a meeting of experts on “Glass Art in Public Spaces of the Contemporary World.”

The workshop and meeting are scheduled for May 30 at the museum premises located at No. 59, 30-Tir Street, ISNA reported on its Persian website.

Lecturer and manager of the workshop is glass artist and art researcher Parinaz Faqihi, professor of art and design at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Porto in Portugal.

Faqihi has two works in the collection of Museu do Vidro (Glass Museum) in the municipality of Marinha Grande, Portugal. She is an expert in the technique of “pate de verre,” one of the oldest known forms of glass working whereby glass powders or frits are pressed into a mold.

The workshop will teach “pate de verre” and the meeting will be a discussion on how glass art is used in public places in Europe.

Glass artist Hayas Hosseini, an expert in lampworking (melting glass with torch), has organized the meeting.

He says “we should have a contemporary approach toward museums and not look at them as graveyards of old stuff. We must turn museums into dynamic places of practical education and centers for scientific research.”

Those interested may apply for the event by May 28 via Hosseini’s email, hayasglass@gmail.com.
