Works by sculptor Mohammad-Reza Khalaji are on display at Iranshahr Art Gallery.
A series of figurative sculptures is the outcome of Khalaji’s contemplation in the concept of ‘framework’, according to the statement of the exhibit.
The human figures are half-covered in heavy sacks. Left out of the sacks are legs and feet which represent the impulse to trespass borders, limitations and frameworks, Honaronline reported on its Persian website.
An overall look at the exhibit gives the impression that there is no way out of the repeating patterns and frameworks. The omnipresent sack covers the faces and hands, leaving the legs as the only means of expression which, as the artist intended, do not tell much.
“All are trapped inside an unyielding mold that – based on an arrogant tradition – does not deign to dignify any question with a response, issues an order and deems it binding,” says the statement.
The exhibit will run through May 29. Iranshahr Gallery is located at No. 69, Sepand Street, Azodi Street, Karim Khan Avenue.
