A group of visual artists will celebrate National Khayyam Day (May18) by holding an exhibition at Hepta Art Gallery in Tehran on May 18-30.  The exhibition commemorates the eleventh century Persian poet by showcasing paintings, sculptures, installation and video art created by 14 artists including filmmaker Mohammad Shirvani and painters Najmeh Kazazi and Fakhteh Shamsaian, Honaronline reported on its Persian website. ‘’Decorum, bewilderment, pain and nihilism are highlights of Khayyam’s poetry. These are the conceptual basis of the featured artworks,’’ curator of the exhibit Maryam Rasti said. Rasti earlier organized an art exhibition celebrating Persian poet Sa’di (1210-1291). Visualization of literature through art is one of her preoccupations. Omar Khayyam (1048-1131) was a Persian mathematician, astronomer, and poet. His book of poetries in form of quatrains (Rubaiyat) has been translated in many languages including English by Edward FitzGerald in 1859. His poems in essence promote the joy of living for the moment.
