Book sales at the 31st Tehran International Book Fair reached a record breaking 950 billion rials ($22.6 million) in nine days.
The proceeds from book sales during the period at this year’s TIBF have surpassed the total sold during the 11-day event last year, which was 830 billion rials ($19.7 million), Mehr News Agency reported on its Persian website.
“The book sales on the ninth day broke the record of any single day in the history of the book fair with a sale of 175 billion rials ($4.1 million),” said Amir-Masoud Shahramnia, deputy head of the TIBF.
A total of 500 publishers from 53 countries are attending the event, at Imam Khomeini Mosalla in central Tehran that ended on Saturday.
The figures for the sale of the last two days (Friday and Saturday) have not been announced yet. However, due to the public reception, especially in the final days, total sales are expected to reach around $28.6 million.
