The 36th Fajr International Film Festival will open with the screening of ‘Beyond the Clouds’ a film by renowned auteur Majid Majidi slated for April 19-27. Starring Ishaan Khattar (brother of Hindi film star Shahid Kapoor) and Malavika Mohanan in the leading roles, and set in the slums of Mumbai, Majidi’s melodrama is the tale of a wild kid who deals drugs and crisscrosses with his motorbike across the city to make the next drop. He reunites with his estranged sister, Taara, in time to become her lifeline after she is being jailed for attempted murder while defending herself from a sexual assault. According to the festivals website, Beyond the Clouds will be released worldwide on April 20. It is to be screened in over 70 cinemas across the Persian Gulf including Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE. The film will also be screened in the US, Canada, Pakistan and Singapore. The film bagged two awards at the International Bosphorus Film Festival in Turkey last November. It earned Best Actor Award for Khattar as well as the award of best editing for Hassan Hassandoust. Majidi, 58, is a celebrated filmmaker and screenwriter, best known for his 1998 Oscar-nominated film ‘Children of Heaven’. His other works include ‘The Song of Sparrows’ (2008), ‘The Color of Paradise’ (1999) and ‘Baran’ (2001).
