Arand Tour has organized for Friday a trip to Alamut, a mountainous region shared between the three provinces of Qazvin, Alborz and Mazandaran. The trip has two main destinations: the alpine lake of Ovan and the historical Alamut Castle or what remains of it. In 1090, Alamut Castle was seized as a mountain fortress, and until 1256, under the leadership of Hasan Sabbah, it became the site of intense activity for the Nizari Ismai'lis, functioning as the headquarters of their state, which consisted of a series of unconnected strategic strongholds scattered throughout Persia and Syria, with each stronghold being surrounded by huge swathes of hostile territory. The fortress was thought impregnable to any military attack, and was fabled for its heavenly gardens, library, and laboratories. Rendezvous is Argentina Square at 5 am. Visitors are required to bring ID card, sufficient clothes, trekking shoes and water. The organizing company will provide breakfast, lunch and snack. More information is available at Arandtour.com.
