The Razzies 2015: Picking the Best of the Worst

The Golden Raspberry, popularly known as the Razzie award, is a peculiar piece of Hollywood legend. While every film award season is typically a four month long celebration of the best the global entertainment industry has to offer, the Razzie awards revel in giving acknowledgement to the worst.

According to the Inquisitr website, the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation, which has hosted the Razzie awards since 1981, just released the shortlist of nominees for the 35th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards.

At the top of the Razzie category for worst picture is ‘The Interview’. While the still-unfolding hacking scandal involving Sony Pictures Entertainment garnered lots of press for the Seth Rogen’s political comedy, critics and audiences were less than kind, calling the screenplay full of “middling laughs bolstered by its two likable leads.”

Other possible Razzie award for worst picture suggested nominees are ‘Transcendence’, ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’, and ‘The Legend of Hercules’.

Tied for most suggested Razzie award categories are the Seth MacFarlane’s comedy ‘A Million Ways to Die in the West’ and ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’. Both MacFarlane and Transformers director Michael Bay are suggested nominees for the worst director Razzie.

Several movies were suggested for multiple Razzie awards. ‘I, Frankenstien’ a fantasy re-telling of the Frankenstein story based on a graphic novel of the same name, received four Razzie suggestions including a worst actor nod for star Aaron Eckhart.

  Biblical Epics

Apparently, it was not a good year for Biblical epics. Both ‘Noah’ and ‘Exodus: Gods and Kings’ were suggested in the Razzie category for worst remake, rip-off, or sequel. ‘Noah’ director Darron Aronofsky was suggested in the Razzie category of worst director, but Ridley Scott was spared.

In the 34-year history of the Golden raspberry, some of the best actors who won Razzies also won Academy Awards, proving that just because you’re super-talented, you can occasionally make a bad film. It happens, and when it does, it’s spectacularly bad. Al Pacino, Kevin Costner, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis, Marlon Brando, Will Smith, Charlton Heston, Laurence Olivier, John Travolta, etc. are among the actors who have managed to win best and worst actor awards!

The official nominees for the respective Razzie awards will be announced January 14, one day before the Academy Award nominee announcements. The Razzie awards will be handed out to the unlucky winners on February 21, one day before the Academy Award ceremony.
