French scholar Yahya Christian Bonnaud and translator of the Qur’an underlined that the principle of unity comes with wisdom and awareness. He made the remark in a seminar on unity held at Tehran’s Milad Tower on Friday, IRNA reported.

Prof. Bonnaud said unity means submitting to the will of God and obeying Divine commandments in all affairs.

He underlined that in monotheistic religions, wisdom and awareness are the criteria of unity, adding that “the higher the awareness, the stronger will unity be,” iqna.ir reported.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Bonnaud stressed that as long as wisdom, conscience and religion accompany human beings, they will always remain on the right path.

The seminar “Islamic Unity, Challenges and Opportunities in View of the Qur’an” was held by the Iranian Academics’ Qur’anic Activities Organization on the sidelines of the 5th International Holy Qur’an Competition for Muslim Students.

Secretary of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought Ayatollah Mohsen Araki also spoke at the event.

  Enhancing Unity

Hamid Reza Tayyebi, head of the Iranian Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research, had earlier said the competition aims to enhance Muslim unity, promote learning the Qur’an and get Muslim students acquainted with the Qur’anic activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The international contest began on January 1, in a ceremony attended by high-ranking officials, including President Hassan Rouhani, as well as Islamic scholars and foreign dignitaries.

A total of 66 representatives from 47 Asian, European, African and American countries vied for four days in memorization and recitation categories at the event.

The competition will end on January 4.
