Short film ‘Retouch,’ written and directed by filmmaker and critic Kaveh Mazaheri, received four awards at Cinalfama Lisbon International Film Awards held on January 24 in the Portuguese capital.

The film received prizes for best short feature, best director, best script, and the award for best actress, Sonia Sanjari, who plays the lead role as Maryam, Mehr News Agency reported.

Produced by the Iranian Young Cinema Society, the film is a surprising portrait of a woman, Maryam, who one morning faces an unexpected choice. Her husband has an accident at home and she has to choose between life and death, freedom and captivity, the past and the future. Mazaheri, 37, was the only Iranian participant at Cinalfama. Born in Tehran, he made his debut as director in 2007 and since then has made both documentaries and short films.

Retouch won awards at the 35th Fajr Film Festival last year and at the annual celebration of the Tehran-based House of Cinema. It also won the Silver Dragon award at the 57th Krakow Film Festival in Poland in May.
