Jounieh Film Festival’s Best Narrative Award for ‘Subdued’

Hamid Nematollah’s romantic drama ‘Subdued’ received the Best Narrative Award at Jounieh International Film Festival, January 17-22, in Lebanon.
With women and society as the theme, the 104-minute film tells the story of a divorcee, Mina (played by Leila Hatami), who falls in love with Kamran (Kourosh Tahami), manager of a restaurant where she works. Kamran has a crush on her too but as Mina’s love grows for him, he gets reluctant to continue the relationship, ISNA reported.
Subdued competed with five other films from Brazil, Greece, Tunisia and Egypt in the feature movies official competition section.
Jury members of JIFF 2018 were Tunisian writer, producer and director Lotfi Achour; Lebanese journalist, film critic and article writer Nadim Jarjoura; Egyptian film critic, writer and director Ayten Amin; Lebanese documentarian Hady Zaccak; as well as Lebanese actor, director and writer Mounir Maasri.
‘Subdued’ premiered at the 35th Fajr Film Festival last February and won three awards, including the Crystal Simorgh award for the best actress for Hatami. Screened widely across Iran in summer, it was warmly welcomed by the public and made $1.2 million at the box office.
