Twelve cinemas and cineplexes in Tehran, consisting of 22 halls with the capacity to accommodate over 6,000 viewers, will screen the movies competing in the 36th Fajr Film Festival (February 1-11).

Mohmmadreza Faraji, as official with the festival, says the venues were selected based on the screening quality they offer and geographical diversity so that those interested would have convenient access from different parts of the sprawling capital, ISNA reported.

Esteqlal, Arikeh Iranian, Javan, Farhang and Mandana cinemas as well as Magamall, Kourosh, Charsou, Tamasha, Raga, Kian and Azadi cineplexes will show the films during the 10-day event.

At this year’s festival, 25 films will vie for the Crystal Simorgh (Iranian mythical bird) awards. The line-up comprises 22 feature films, two documentaries and one animation by veteran directors and newcomers. Most of the entries are dramas (social and family) while there are also political, action, thriller, war and comedy films.

Founded in 1982, FFF is Iran’s largest annual film festival held in Tehran. The event displays creative achievements of cineastes and awards top quality local films. Since inception it has played a vital role in the development of the domestic film industry.
