Lian folk band from Bushehr in south of Iran will hold a concert in collaboration with a group of Chinese drummers during the 33rd Fajr International Music Festival (January 10-20).
The performance is slated for Friday at Niavaran Cultural Center in north Tehran, Mehr News Agency reported.
Led by the ney-anban (bagpipe) virtuoso and music researcher Mohsen Sharifian, 43, the band plays Bushehri music which is an offshoot of ‘bandari’ (literally meaning ‘of the port’) music, common in the coastal areas in the Persian Gulf. The band has performed around the world, from the US to the Far East.
Drummer and composer Homayoun Nassiri, 37, leader of Darkoob band will perform as guest percussionist.
The joint concert will be held at Niavaran Center located at the northern end of Pasdaran Street, across Niavaran Park.
