Roman Polanski’s 1979 adaptation of ‘Tess of the D’Urbervilles’ by English novelist and poet Thomas Hardy is to be screened at the Iranian Artists Forum’s Cinematheque on Monday.

In the film, a poor British girl, Tess (Nastassja Kinski), finds herself seduced and abandoned by her cousin, Alec, a handsome social climber (Leigh Lawson). Later she attempts to find happiness in marriage to a modest farmer,  Angel (Peter Firth). However, her past catches up with her and brings about tragic results.
