‘Bella Figura’ a 2015 play written by French novelist and playwright Yasmina Reza is on stage at Shano Theater House in Tehran by Soroush Taheri.
“It is a perspective into the social life of the French people and criticizes their daily interactions,” Taheri told Honaronline.
“Despite their outer beauty, how they look from the inside could be totally different. This fact is not limited to any single geographical location and can be applied to different nations,” he added.
Although the play was originally written in French, Reza has given it an Italian name, meaning beautiful face’.
The story begins in the parking lot of a posh restaurant and then moves to the dining room. It has five characters, a married couple, the husband’s mother, and a married man and his mistress.
Sousan Maqsoudlou, Manely Hosseinpour, Meysam Razfar, Shohreh Ra’ayati, Reza Izadkhah and Behrouz Sarv-Alishahi are in the cast. Sarv-Alishahi has translated the play into Persian for the first time. Reza is an acclaimed playwright interested in looking beneath the perfect veneer of the upper-middle class. Her work has been widely translated, making her a well-known playwright in Francophone and Anglophone countries.
The venue at No. 3, Behnam Alley, Vesal Shirazi Street will run the play through January 20.
