Acclaimed French drummer, composer and songwriter Manu Katché will perform in Tehran as part of the 33rd Fajr International Music Festival (January 10-20).

Katché, 59, will appear on the stage at Vahdat Hall on Jan. 18. He will perform as part of a  trio with bassist Jerome Regard on double bass and Patrick Manouguian on electric guitar, ILNA reported.

To this day, Katché remains the drummer of choice for English singer, songwriter and record producer Peter Gabriel, 67. Equally important is his long-standing collaboration with English musician, singer and songwriter Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, 66, better known by his stage name Sting.

At Tehran’s iconic hall, the trio will stage a jazz performance. From the beginning, jazz has been a recurrent theme throughout Katché’s career. Among jazz enthusiasts, he owes much of his popularity to a long membership in the Jan Garbarek Group. Garbarek, 70, is a Norwegian jazz saxophonist who is also active in classical and world music.

Katché’s performance is a rare balancing act: his beats are clear and highly intensive, but at the same time feather-light and organically groovy. His unmistakable little accents lend a sort of uniqueness to his works.
