Tehran Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Iranian-American composer, conductor, violinist and pianist Shahrdad Rouhani, 62, will celebrate Yalda, the Persian solstice, one night prior to the annual festivity.
Starting at 9 pm, the performance is slated for December 20 at the Ministry of Interior Auditorium, anticipating the eve of the first day of winter. It is a nocturnal celebration to be observed this year from the night of December 21, which is the longest night of the year, well into the late hours in the morning of December 22.
Repertoire of the orchestra includes ‘The Carnival of Animals’ by French composer Camille Saint Saens (1835-1921); and ‘Peter and the Wolf’ by Russian pianist and conductor Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953), ILNA reported.
‘Baroque Flamenco’ composed by American harpist and composer Deborah Henson Conant, 64; the soundtrack of the movie ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ by American composer, conductor and music arranger Victor Young (1900-1956); and the score of ‘Gone with the Wind (1939)’ by Austrian-American composer Max Steiner (1888-1971) are other pieces that will be covered in the orchestra. The auditorium is located on Shahid Gomnam St., Fatemi Square. Tickets for the event are available at Iranconert.com.
