The fourth edition of Egg Drop Competition is to be held later this month at Tehran’s Shahid Rajaee Teacher Training University, in a bid to identify creative students and innovative designs. The Egg Drop Contest, annually held in Iran universities, is an experiment in which competitors design and create devices that can keep a raw chicken egg intact when dropped from a height. As reported by IRNA, the idea to hold such competitions was first raised by NASA when it decided to use the best vehicle structure to send objects (including probes and facilities) to other planets with controlled velocity and acceleration, IRNA reported. “This is the first time in Iran that the competition is to be organized as per international standards,” Mohammad Mehdi Manavi, secretary of the event said. He said the submitted designs could also be used for designing mailing packages, protective outfits for skydivers and relief packages for people in crisis-hit areas. To help spread awareness among participants about the subject and make the event more science-based, a training workshop is planned on December 4, at the university premises. Architecture and Urban Development Faculty of the university, located in Shabanlou St., Lavizan neighborhood in north Tehran, is to host the contest on December 11-13. The best works will be awarded on Dec. 16.
