Two Iranian films won awards in the competitive section of the 35th Sport Movies & TV Festival held November 15-20 in Milan, Italy.

According to the website, filmfreeway.com, ‘Are You Volleyball’, a medium-length film by Mohammad Bakhshi won a Guirlande of Honor award in the Movies category. In addition, the short film ‘The Reporter’ directed by Mohammad Reza Kheradmandan won an Honorable Mention in the Movies and TV Football category.

The two-minute short ‘The Reporter’ is about a boy who has only 100 seconds to report a children’s football match.

‘Are You Volleyball’ is about a group of Arab refugees who arrive at the border of an English speaking country only to find that the border is closed. The refugees get involved in a quarrel with the security guards and events take a different turn. Prominent figures from the worlds of sports, film and television were present at the festival on the concluding night of Sport Movies & TV. The Culture and Tourism Minister of Italy Dario Franceschini and the Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala attended the closing ceremony.

Mojtaba Alavi, the secretary of Tehran International FICTS Festival and Amir Hosseini, the representative of FICTS International Federation in Iran received the awards on behalf of the winners.

FICTS which stands for Fédération Internationale Cinéma Télévision Sportifs is a federation of sports television, recognized by the International Olympic Committee. Founded in 1983, it promotes sport values through film and television.  Iran had submitted 17 works to compete at the festival which included clip arts, TV shows, feature and short documentaries as well as short and feature films.
