The 30th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) in Japan opened October 25.  The jury for the festival’s main competition section, led by Oscar winner and American actor and filmmaker Tommy Lee Jones, 71, met the media on the red carpet on Thursday at Tokyo’s Roppongi Hills Complex, reported. Iran’s renowned screenwriter and director Reza Mirkarimi, 51, is a member of the jury at the International Competition Section. He has made eight feature films in 18 years, all winning multiple awards locally and globally. His films have won a total of 40 awards.  “We’re all very happy to be here. This is an honored occasion for each one of us,” Jones said in his introductory remarks. “I am the only American on this jury, and we only have one person from China, one Iranian, one from France and just one person from Japan. So we don’t represent the entire world, but we don’t represent any one place either - and that’s a very good thing.” Two Iranian films will be screened at the festival. ‘The Home’ written, directed, and produced by Asghar Yousefinejad, is in the lineup for the Competition Section along with 14 other movies. The 90-minute movie ‘Life Without Life’, directed by Kaveh Moeinfar, is participating in the Asian Future section. TIFF will wrap up on November 3.
