The workshop ‘Artistic Listening to Learn’ was held under the instruction of Daniela Bassani, renowned Italian sound designer, at the 34th Tehran International Short Film Festival at Mellat Cinema Complex in Tehran, October 19. According to a press release by the festival, in the workshop she talked about the role of sound in a film, her tasks as a sound designer while filming and during the postproduction phase and her cooperation with the film director. Pointing to the importance of words in cinematic production, she said, “when you talk about the sound project of a film, dialogues are not the first thing that comes to our mind. Sound is an important feature of film editing. It can add up to the work and can reveal many points in the movie”. Bassani is a graduate of the Experimental Center of Cinematography in Rome. She started her career as a sound designer and sound editor in 1993 with short films and documentaries. She has worked with renowned filmmakers namely Ken Loach, Emir Kusturica, Spike Lee, John Woo and Abbas Kiarostami. In 2014, Bassani won the Italian Sound Engineering Association Award at the International Rome Film Festival for ‘Last Summer’.
