The 12th Specialized Handmade Carpet Exhibition in Hamedan will be held November 21-27 in the capital of the province. The venue is the Hamedan International Exhibition Center near Ashura Square, according to Asrenamayeshgah News Agency (asrenamayeshgah.com).

Hamedan is one of the largest carpet weaving areas in the region and encompasses hundreds villages. Each of village has its own characteristic weaving tradition that determines the patterns and sizes of the rugs.

Most rugs woven in Hamedan have primary colors with ivory, red, blue or brown backgrounds. Hamedan designs are generally simple and usually incorporate floral elements. They also can have hexagonal or diamond-shaped designs.

Smaller Hamedan rugs typically have a central diamond-shaped medallion. Larger rugs and runners can contain three or more medallions. Medallions found in Hamedan rugs also contain geometric figures, floral designs, serrated lines or hooks.
