LUCAS Fest Award for ‘Gamichi’

‘Gamichi’ a film written and directed by filmmaker Majid Esmaili Parsa, 37, was awarded at LUCAS International Festival for Young Film Lovers in Frankfurt. On the last day of the festival, October 7, Gamichi, which participated in the competition section, received the ‘Award for Outstanding Cinematic Achievement’, ILNA reported. Also known as ‘Helmsman’, the film derives its name from a village on Shahi Island, the largest island in Urmia Lake, located between the provinces of East and West Azarbaijan in northwest Iran. Made in 2015, the 85-minute film is about Hassan, a boy who tries to repair his father’s ship as a gift for the man’s birthday. His father left home and did not return after the desiccation of Urmia Lake. But Hassan hopes his father will return.  The film is presently on screens in Tehran at Charsou Cineplex, Cinema Museum and Iranian Artists Forum. In the cast are Mehdi Mohajeri, Majid Deris, Yousef Khodaparast, Yousef Bakhtiari and Hamideh Moghadaszadeh among others.
