Iranian Female Drummer Asal Malekzade to Hold Workshops in Switzerland

Iranian daf virtuoso and drummer, Asal Malekzadeh, is to attend the International Drums and Percussion Camp to be held Nov. 2-5 in Canton of Thurgau, Switzerland. She will perform with other musicians and also hold workshops.

Malekzadeh is a master of percussion instruments (both Iranian and western) and other than daf - a large Persian frame drum used in popular and classical music - she plays instruments such as dayereh, drums, cajon and congas,‌ Mehr News Agency reported.

Born in Tehran, Malekzadeh, 29, has been playing daf for almost two decades. She has held several concerts and workshops in Iran and in other countries, participated in several local and international festivals and won awards.

She has successfully established a music group, produced an album and authored a book on daf. She teaches music at Alzahra University in Tehran.
