The Iranian documentary ‘Madame’, directed by Narges Kharaghani, is competing at the 16th Great Lakes International Film Festival, in Pennsylvania. It is the second time the film is competing at an international festival, Mehr News Agency reported. This is the first feature documentary by Kharaghani, a filmmaker well-known for her short films, namely, ‘Screenplay’ and ‘My Sister’s Photo’. Her previous short films were highly praised by critics at several international film events. Shot in several Iranian cities including Tehran, Isfahan and Anzali, ‘Madame’ revolves around the life and memories of a woman named Maria, one of the last Polish immigrants to Iran, who sought refuge in the country about 75 years ago after the Soviet invasion of Poland at the onset of World War II in 1939. The 16th Great Lakes International Film Festival is held in the city of Erie, Pennsylvania from Sept. 20-30. The top films will be announced on Sept. 30. Considered among the top 100 most popular film events in the world, the festival is dedicated to showcasing independent films in the digital medium and presenting the works of independent filmmakers and their outstanding achievements in cinema.
