The 11th Cinema Verite, Iran’s International Documentary Film Festival, slated for December 10-17 in Tehran, has received 4,102 documentaries from 100 countries.

Countries with the highest number of submissions are India, US, Germany, UK, Italy, France, Spain, Canada and Brazil, IRNA reported.

Cinema Verite is the biggest Iranian event on documentary cinema and is organized by the Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC), the largest center for production, distribution and promotion of documentary, animated and experimental movies in the Middle East.

In addition to the participating works, the upcoming Verite will screen documentaries selected and commended at important events in the world including the international film festivals of Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Locarno, as well as International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (in Czech) and Visions Du Reel (in Switzerland).

‘Special Screening’, ‘New Vision’ and ‘Our Era’ (political documentaries) are among the sections of the festival.

Cinema Verite seeks to provide a platform for contemplation on truth and reality.

The festival is held for protection of national identities and promotion of creative documentary.

Through international competition and special screening, and by conducting workshops and holding a market for the featured documentaries, Cinema Verite familiarizes participants with global developments in documentary cinema.

The festival also supports documentarians by distributing and screening their works in other festivals and removing hurdles to film production.
