Pars Hospital in Rasht, designed by New Wave Architecture based in Tehran, has been shortlisted for the World Building of the Year prize at the next  edition of World Architecture Festival to be held Nov. 15-17 at the Arena Berlin exhibition center in Germany.

Architecture projects from 68 countries have been shortlisted for awards at this year’s festival including a concept for an expanding housing project in Syria and a plant-covered hotel in Vietnam , according to dezeen, media partner of WAF.

Pars Hospital, built in 2016 in the capital city of northern Gilan Province, will participate in the ‘Health’ category of the festival. It had a large engineering team but lead designers were architects Lida Almassian and Shahin Heidari.

The 160-bed hospital is built over 30,000 sq meters. Diagnostic areas, emergency wards and the outpatient clinic are inter-connected vertically and horizontally through a main transparent Atrium.

The design is flexible allowing for adaptation and change if and when necessary. Possible extension of the hospital on the western and northern flanks has also been taken into consideration.

The World Architecture Festival is a three-day event for architects and interior design professionals.

WAF is a venue where the world architecture community meets to celebrate, learn, exchange and be inspired. It is the only architecture event where keynote talks from the industry’s most influential figures sit alongside live ‘crit’ presentations where over 400 award finalists will be judged.

Seminars, Berlin architecture tour, global networking, a gallery with 500 projects, international product exhibition, finalist showcase, Architecture Drawing Prize and a closing gala are among other features of WAF.
