An exhibition of artworks participating in the first Heart of Tehran artistic award ceremony will be held August 29-September 13 at Malek National Library Museum in Tehran.

The first edition of the festival marks the 230th anniversary of Tehran as the national capital of Iran. The city was chosen as Iran’s capital by Agha Mohammad Khan of the Qajar Dynasty in 1786.

A total of 155 artworks will be on display at the Heart of Tehran exhibition. Their subject is the historical capital city including its attractions and highlights. Of particular significance is District 12 where there are several historical monuments, according to the website of the festival,

Photographs, posters, illustrations, movies and animations will be showcased. The website says 106 artworks are participating in the ‘main’ and 49 in the ‘special’ section.

The special section is devoted to the Plasco tower tragedy in which a huge blaze on January 19 led to the collapse of the iconic building in south Tehran. The section is a tribute to the victims, including the 16 firefighters and four others who died in the inferno.

From among the artworks, 10 illustrations have been purchased by Tehran Municipality District 12. They are included in the showcase.  Malek National Library Museum is located near Imam Khomeini Square. It is open to the public on all days except Fridays and national holidays from 8:30 am-4:15 pm.
