Pilaram’s Drawings on Display

Farda Gallery in Tehran highlights the drawing mastery of renowned visual artist Faramarz Pilaram (1937-1982) who is mainly known for his paintings and calligraphies.

‘From Drawing to Painting after 45 Years’ is an exhibition underway at Farda Gallery located at No. 2, A’rabi 6, Hosseini Street, Karim Khan Bridge, the Persian-language newspaper Donya-e-Eqtesad reported.

On display are 50 drawings and a few paintings by Pilaram, the modernist who, like sculptor and painter Parviz Tanavoli, 80, was among the major founders of Saqqakhaneh School of Art.

Saqqakhaneh took its name from the votive fountains installed for public drinking and congregating mainly in the older quarters of Iranian towns and cities. The school of art took Iranian folk art and literary tradition beyond their original context, producing a style of intermediary art mixing western and Persian artistic conventions.

According to a statement by the exhibition, the featured works reflect a different aspect of Pilaram’s artistic character. The potent drawings created a basis on which the Saqqakhaneh movement flourished

The exhibition ‘From Drawing to Painting After 45 Years’ will run through August 16. Visiting hours are from 4-8 pm.
