Over 7,000 films have been submitted to the upcoming edition of Tehran International Short Film Festival (TISFF).

The 34th TISFF, slated for October 17-22, has received a total of 7,444 short films in the two competitive national and international sections, Mehr News Agency reported.

National competition section received 1,485 films, while 5,959 works were sent to the international competition section of the festival.

Of the works submitted to the national competition section, 888 are narrative, 235 are documentary, 98 are animated films and 264 are categorized as experimental.

The 5,959 films, sent to the international section, are from 117 countries. With 593 participating films, France has the largest contribution to the festival. Next comes Germany with 166 works and is followed by Brazil with 114 films. Taiwan with 108 works and Belgium with 87 are next.

The festival is organized by the Iranian Youth Cinema Society (IYCS, a member of International Short Film Conference), which is affiliated to the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance. Seyed Sadeq Mousavi, CEO of IYCS, is the secretary of the 34th TISFF.

Compared to the last edition of TISFF, held November 8-14, 2016, the upcoming event has grown more assertive. Last year, there were 147 films participating in national section: 65 narrative films, 26 documentaries, 35 animations and 21 experimental films; all fewer than this year’s figures.

The international section of the festival has seen yet more drastic growth in the number of entries, comparing with the last edition in which some 80 films from 40 countries participated.
