Composer and pianist Mehrzad Khajeh Amiri, accompanied by his large band, will present a ‘New Age Night’ on August 31 in Tehran.

The concert starts at Azadi Tower at 9 pm and will feature a diverse repertoire of instrumental pieces by Khajeh Amiri, 30, and other renowned musicians from across the world, Azad News Agency (ANA) reported.

Since the age of 17, Khajeh Amiri started shifting from classical music to world music, instrumental and New Age.  With his concerts, he is promoting instrumental music and attracting Iranian audiences to the genre.

The repertoire includes pieces originally composed by celebrated musicians including Canadian singer, songwriter and poet Leonard Cohen (1934-2016); and the Irish-Norwegian band of ‘Secret Garden,’ specializing in new instrumental music.

It also covers a piece by Greek composer, keyboardist and producer Yiannis Chryssomallis, 62, better known as Yanni who lives in the US.

Among the musicians accompanying Khajeh Amiri  are violinists Masoud Norouzi and Rozhin Edalat, Soheil Bahman on alto violin, cellists Shadi Rahimi and Illia Amini, and Amir Hossein Kianpour who plays an array of ethnic music instruments.

Kimia Sharbafian will play oboe. Saeed Farnejad plays electric guitar and Milad Dodangeh is on bass guitar.

Percussionist Sharyar Shafei and keyboardist Hamed Qorbani are other players.

Choir members are Hossein Mahdavi, Ali Pourrajab, Danial Ebrat, Nadia Baqeri, Roya Rafati and Mahsa Mardani.

‘Komitis,’ a 2015 ambient, New Age composition by Khajeh Amiri, which is accompanied by a choir, will be performed at the concert. His other piece included in the repertoire is ‘The Night Storyteller.’
