Two Iranian films have been awarded at the 3rd Around International Film Festival (ARFF) in Amsterdam.

Environmental film ‘Kupal’ has won the Best Feature Film Award and ‘999999999’ also won the Best Experimental Film Award at the Dutch event, Mehr News Agency reported.

Written and directed by Kazem Mollaei, ‘Kupal’ competed with movies from the US, China, the Netherlands, Canada, Brazil, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Czech Republic,

It is about the protection of the environment and animals and narrates the story of Dr. Ahmad Kupal, a taxidermist hunter, as he faces a challenge just before the New Year.

The cast includes Levon Haftvan, Nazanin Farahani, Pouria Rahimi-Sam, Hossein Shamsabadi, Vahan Salimzadeh and Mitra Asiaee. Also starring in a key role is a smart dog named Sharon.

Mollaei’s debut feature film also attended the competitive section of Fajr Film Festival in February.

‘999999999’, directed by Karim Azimi, focuses on the theme that people climb up a stone staircase from childhood through the rest of their lives, and nightmares pour on them like rain.

Azimi’s 10-minute experimental work has so far participated in a number of international film events including Roma Cinema Doc in Italy and Filmstrip International Film Festival in Romania and won awards such as the Best Short Film at Gold Movie Awards in the UK.

The ARFF is an international online event for short, documentary, feature, commercial, music and animated films.

It seeks to provide homes to groups of film enthusiasts who are committed in creating space for the film industry and devoted to spreading the knowledge of  modern visual art around the globe and on a single platform.
