The play ‘Flying Shams’ directed by veteran theater director Pari Saberi will be staged at Sa’dabad Complex in northern Tehran in mid July.
It will be the fourth time for Saberi, 85, to direct the play as she has staged it before in 2016, 2007 and 1999. The show has also performed in France, Italy and Turkey, Mehr News Agency reported.
‘Flying Shams’ is about classical Persian poet and mystic Rumi (1207-1273) and his spiritual mentor Shams Tabrizi (1185-1248) when they met for the first time.
The play has been received well by the public, and therefore, Saberi, winner of UNESCO’s 2003 Avicenna Award, has decided to bring it on stage once more.
In its new performance, film and theater actor Asghar Hemmat plays the role of Rumi and Sirous Asnaghi is Shams.
Saberi’s plays are mostly based on stories from classical Persian literature including ‘Rostam and Esfandyar’, ‘Layla and Majnun’ and ‘Yusuf (Joseph) and Zulaikha’.
