Prolific painter Adel Younesi is exhibiting his work in Iran after eight years.

The 13th solo exhibit of paintings titled ‘Bentasia’ will display 11 of Younesi’s artworks in different sizes, the smallest of which is 120x80 cm. He has used acrylic and oil color techniques on canvas, IRNA reported.

Most of the paintings to be exhibited have been created in recent years.

“In these artworks, like in many of my previous works, I have used bright joyful colors, and the atmosphere is surreal with a touch of history; some historical figures like English comic actor Charlie Chaplin, Iranian musician and tar master Ali Akbar Shahnazi, celebrated musician Morteza Neydavoud, and religious figures like Christ and his apostles in the Last Supper, have appeared in my paintings,” he said.

In addition to history, mythology, fantasy, pictures, and architecture of 14th and 17th century, he said Persian mystical literature and proverbs were among his sources of inspiration.

A meeting will be held on July 9 to study and analyze his artworks at Iranshahr Art Gallery. A documentary on Younesi made by Ahoura Shir Ashtiani, will also be shown. Parts of the documentary which has also some underwater scenes were filmed in Europe.

Younesi, 32, has held 10 solo and 30 group exhibitions in Iran and Europe since 2004. He received the first prize in the third youth art festival in 2006; he also won the first prize in the 13th Iranian visual arts festival in 2005.

In his works, he usually displays a world of fantasy. He brings objects, animals, human beings from different times on his canvas and creates a special world by breaking the boundaries of time and place.

The exhibit opened Friday and will run for 11 days at the gallery located at No.69, Sepanad St., Azodi St., Karim Khan St.
