The well-known Abidi Pharmaceutical Company based in Tehran has commissioned film director Seyed Vahid Hosseini to make a documentary about the founder of the company.

“I am currently researching on the life and works of Gholam Ali Abidi (1920-2004), who established the first pharmaceutical laboratory in Iran.

Abidi Company was the first domestic pharmaceutical firm to produce medicines. Gradually the company started to produce cosmetic and hygienic products.

“Research on the work will be completed in a month’s time after which I will start the shooting,” Hosseini told Mehr News Agency.

“Interviews will be among the first shots to be taken. I’m going to interview a number of people who knew Dr. Abidi and were in contact with him. Other parts of the documentary will be about his laboratories.”

Dr. Abidi pharmaceutical laboratory was established in 1946 at Amin Hozour junction in Tehran. In 1958, it received license for production of vermicide tablets. In the same year, the laboratory produced its first oral syrup for cough treatment.

“I may reconstruct some parts of his life … I’m looking through an archive of his photos and other documented sources.

The documentary will encompass his childhood, introduction of the pharmaceutical industry in Iran and his lifetime achievements.

The pharmaceutical company today covers an area of 15,000 square meters on Karaj Special (Makhsous) Road and has 600 personnel.

In 2001, the Abidi Pharmaceutical Company was made a reference laboratory for quality control by the Health Ministry.
